He's on the path to world domination, and piffling things like life, money and work aren't going to get in his way. Ninth Art hands the podium over to the award-winning creator of 1000 STEPS TO WORLD DOMINATION. We'll pay, oh how we'll all pay...
19 September 2003

Rob Osborne, winner of the 2003 Isotope Award for Excellence in Mini-Comics, is the creator of 1000 STEPS TO WORLD DOMINATION. 1000STWD is "about an ordinary dude who finally gets serious about achieving his ultimate goal: World Domination. Conquering the world is a very serious matter, but this book laughs in the face of long odds."

Rob lives in the Arizona desert with his wife Sarah and three dogs, and has been featured in the Arizona Tribune.

BIG NEWS:

I am currently working on the 1000 STEPS TO WORLD DOMINATION big-boy comic. Having conquered the world of mini-comics, it is an obvious next step to turn the mini-comic into a fully-grown funnybook. The first issue is complete and should ship by the end of the year. Over sixty pages of the story are ready for the upcoming issues.

BIG BUSINESS:

I have an irrefutable, unstoppable desire to make comics. I have a passion for comics. I tried to go without them... I tried to be the upwardly mobile, model-of-success business boy, but I love drawing pictures with words too much. Give me comics or give me death.

BIG TROUBLE:

My biggest challenge is time. I want more time. I maintain a "real" job, and every hour I spend working at that job is an hour I spend away from the drawing table. I want to spend more of my time writing and drawing comics. So send money. Thank you.

BIG SPENDER:

How can I afford not to make comics? If you set your mind to it, then you can do anything. Right? I don't care what your circumstances are; persevere and stay focused. When I decided that come hell or high water, I would make comics.... that was that. And here I am, doing exactly what I set out to do. Once I figured out what it would cost me to do what I really wanted to do and compared that with the costs of not making comics... I knew that I would become filthy rich by making comics.

BIG AMBITION:

I want to write and draw the comic book that everyone is reading. The top seller, baby. I want 1000 STEPS TO WORLD DOMINATION to be the HARRY POTTER of comics. And then I want my next project to top that.

BIG UP:

Mike Mignola is mandatory reading. He's been busy working on the HELLBOY movie, but when he cranks out new issues of HELLBOY, I pick them up. Paul Grist's JACK STAFF has my attention. Where has Walter Simonson gone? I would love to see something new from him. I'm ready for some more Frank Miller too. William Harms wrote a graphic novel for AIT/PlanetLar called ABEL which really sticks you in the gut. Ryan Yount and Andrew Boyd are on a roll with their self-published SCURVY DOGS.

BIG TIME:

I am committed to a singular vision: Complete World Domination through comic books.

BIG FINISH:

You can do anything you set your mind to. Get off the couch. Stop nursing at the teat of your television. Clear your head and get serious about following your passion. This isn't a dress rehearsal, kids. I'm not Tony Robbins, but I'm awakening the giant within. You want to do something with your life? Do it already. I want to be remembered as the King Kong of comics.

BIG DEAL:

What have you done to support World Domination? Issues #1-4 of the award-winning 1000 STEPS TO WORLD DOMINATION are available by mail. Send $2.50 per issue to Rob Osborne, PO Box 453, Gilbert, Arizona 85299. And the book will soon be available through Absence of Ink's Black Label. You absolutely must read this book, especially if you live across the pond. We're going international, baby.
