First comic you read that made you want to work in comics?
SILVER SURFER! The first appearance of Super Skrull. I don't remember what number that was, but I read that issue over and over until all the pages fell out.
Last person you spoke to on the phone?
My friend Luis, who just made it back home after duty in Iraq. We talked about the perils of buying a used mattress, and how my next tattoo should be 'EGG NOG', in old English letters on my stomach.
First time you met one of your heroes?
If MacGyver was real, I would have wanted to meet him.
(Talk about dodging the question...! - Ed.)
Last time you cooked a meal?
A few nights ago I made fettuccini with tomato sauce... I chopped up some garlic and sautéed it with string beans and some spices, then added that to the sauce. It was a success!
First crush?
Raphael from the TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES. (Heehee, I'm blushing...)
Last time you spent $100 on clothes?
I don't think I've ever spent that much on clothes. I guess that makes me a bargain shopper! I just bought this really cute skirt the other day for three bucks.
First thing you do when you book into a hotel?
Test the bed, definitely. Maybe jump on it a little.
Last time you cried?
When I laughed way too hard...
First teacher to make a difference to you?
Fifth grade, Ms Haven. Even though I failed math, she was the first teacher who really encouraged me to draw. She would hang my drawings up around the room.
Last time you told a lie?
I've never... Oh wait, just now.
First time you feared for your life?
When I was five, my dad taught me how to gut a fish. It was fall, so my hands got really really cold from the fish guts and stuff, then when I went inside to wash my hands the warm water hurt so bad. That had never happened to me, and I thought my hands were frostbitten and were going to fall off, then I would eventually bleed to death. But damn, the fish tasted so good that I eventually forgot about it. (And I still have both my hands.)
Last comic you read that reminded you why you love comics?
SCOTT PILGRIM'S PRECIOUS LITTLE LIFE, by Bryan O'Malley. It was, like, the feel good comic event of the year. I laughed out loud so many times, and after it was done all I wanted to do was sit down and draw an awesome comic! Yeah!
